BOC Meeting Recap

Special D2 Update:

At the last Board of Commissioners meeting, the Board, with Commissioner Richardson recused and Chairwoman Cupid absent, voted 3-0 to confirm the vacancy of Commissioner Richardson’s District 2 seat.

This vote kicked off a 10-day process that gave her due process to appeal the decision to the Cobb Superior Court. If she decides to appeal, and she has publically stated that she will, she will remain a “de facto” Commissioner until the court makes a ruling.

At the Cobb County Board of Commissioners regular meeting held on September 10, several significant topics were addressed. The meeting began with a series of presentations, including proclamations recognizing September as National Senior Center Month, Minority Business Opportunity Week, and Constitution Week. The Board also presented a Certificate of Recognition for Lissencephaly Awareness Day and honored Officer Tiersa Grostic for her outstanding driving record during a vehicle telematics trial project.

The consent agenda covered a broad range of county business, such as approving various contracts for the Water System, including a unit price contract for large water meter vaults and a construction contract for a water main relocation. Other key approvals included the purchase of equipment for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office and the extension of a pension board agreement. Several grant applications and donations were authorized, benefiting both the District Attorney's Office and the Juvenile Court, supporting advocacy and assistance programs for victims and juveniles.

The regular agenda focused on transportation projects, with approvals for contracts related to sidewalk construction and drainage system repairs. The Board also ratified emergency repairs and approved updates to the Transportation Improvements Program. At the end of the meeting, public comments were heard, and several appointments were made to county boards and authorities, ensuring ongoing leadership and community involvement in vital areas like healthcare and neighborhood safety.
