The Kevin For Cobb Connector
This Week in Cobb County: 02/01/24
Welcome
I am thrilled to announce that our first newsletter is finally out! This newsletter contains a lot of exciting news about the campaign, the maps, and other important events happening around Cobb County.
This platform will inform you about upcoming campaign events and essential issues within the county. Our goal is to provide accurate and timely information that will help you stay up-to-date with what's happening in Cobb County.
It will also be used to share critical county meeting recaps, including those from the Board of Commissioners meetings, Zoning meetings, and, of course, the significant Elections meetings that will be taking place in 2024.
Campaign News
The Kevin For Cobb campaign began strongly in the fourth quarter of 2023, and the response was overwhelming. Our message of community empowerment resonated with many and has already made a positive impact.
However, there was some uncertainty in the background due to the judicial review of maps. All maps touching Cobb County, including the US Congressional district map, the State House district map, the State Senate district map, the Cobb County School District map, and the Cobb County Board of Commissioners map, were under review.
On January 8th, 2024, Judge Ann Harris declared that the Cobb County Board of Commissioners' map was unconstitutional. The Cobb County legal team has appealed this ruling, and a stay was issued, allowing Commissioner Richardson to remain in her seat. We expect to have a final ruling by the end of February. Qualifying week for anyone running for office starts in March, so I am optimistic that we will have some closure by then.
“While the recent court decision has created some uncertainty about our district lines, I remain committed to representing my community as a commissioner and working with you to create positive change for our future.”
What’s Happening in the District
Are you wondering how to stay informed about what is taking place in your community? As the civic associations around us gear up for their first meetings of the year, they are also seeking to boost their membership.
Civic associations provide an excellent platform to engage with a tightly-knit private organization in your neighborhood. Some notable D2 organizations include the East Cobb Civic Association, JOSH, Powers Ferry Corridor Association, and numerous neighborhood associations in Vinings and Smyrna. These organizations can help amplify your voice to influence the development of your area.
Let me know what organization you are a part of! I can highlight them here and help share their impact on the community.

What’s Happening in the County
February is an important month as it is recognized as Black History Month, a time to commemorate and celebrate the rich history and contributions of Black Americans. In Cobb County, there are several events lined up this month to raise awareness and educate the community on the significance of this observance. These events will offer a range of activities such as cultural performances, exhibitions, workshops, and lectures.
The Big Story
In 2024, Cobb County has some important decisions to make. The Commissioner elections for District 2, District 4, and the County Chair are around the corner. In addition to these elections, we will have some important changes under consideration that will impact Cobb.
The first topic we will highlight this week is the upcoming Mobility Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (MSPLOST) that will be featured on our ballots in November. This option aims to allocate funds toward the modernization and betterment of Cobb's existing transportation system over the next 30 years. As this proposal extends beyond 20 years, the Federal government will offer substantial funds to support these projects.

Meetings Recap
The Board of Commissioners (BOC) holds meetings twice a month - on the second Tuesday at 9am and on the fourth Tuesday at 7pm. In January, there was an additional meeting on Tuesday, January 30th, for the annual Public Hearing to approve amendments to the Comprehensive Plan.
During the January meetings, the BOC discussed various work orders for stormwater infrastructure repairs, the creation of new election districts in Mableton, improvements to Noonday Creek Trail, and the acceptance of grants to aid the District Attorney's Office of victim assistance.
Starting from February, we will post more detailed updates about the meetings here. We might also make more recap videos featuring the Cheers To Cobb crew.
